Wow!!!!! My father and I had the opportunity to be a part of the 6th annual Blanket Run sponsored by GodSpeeds Rides in Brownsburg, IN today. http://www.godspeedrides.com/ Although the weather was a bit uncooperative, the run was absolutely INCREDIBLE.
Basically, participates brought a new or slightly used blanket to donate for the homeless of Indianapolis. The run started at GodSpeed, 454 Johnson Lane. in Brownsburg, Indiana. The first stop on the run was DSR (Don Schumacher Racing). http://www.shoeracing.com/
For those unfamilar with DSR, I've "swiped" a "history lesson" from the DSR website: "Don Schumacher started drag racing in 1963 with his street car at the U.S. 30 dragstrip in Gary, Indiana. In 1974, Don "hung up his helmet" and retired from NHRA racing to devote his energies full time to his family business, Schumacher Electric Corporation. However, in the early 1990s, Don's interest in drag racing returned when his son Tony began racing NHRA sportsman cars. After watching Tony's continued success with various competition models, Don decided to re-enter the NHRA racing community as an owner and quickly began forming his racing team network under the name of Don Schumacher Racing. Don signed his first Top Fuel sponsorship agreement in July of 1998 with Exide Batteries, and in 1999, Tony captured the NHRA Championship. In 2000, Don Schumacher Racing partnered with the U.S. Army to sponsor Tony's Top Fuel car. Tony would go on to capture his fourth Top Fuel championship in 2006, 3rd in the U.S Army Dragster. Today, Don Schumacher Racing is a force in all four main NHRA divisions. In addition to Tony, DSR fields Funny Car teams for Jack Beckman, Ron Capps and the 2005 Funny Car Champion Gary Scelzi. In the Pro Stock Division, DSR is led by Richie Stevens with three-time champion Angelle Sampey and Antron Brown carrying the DSR banner in the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle division. Championships, wins, national awards and most importantly - genuine, down-to-earth, first-class individuals who are great competitors and drivers have helped make Don Schumacher Racing one of the stars in the NHRA."
DSR graciously opened their doors to those on the Blanket Run and let us wander through their 100,000 sq. ft. facility in Brownsburg, IN. The tour was amazing!
THANKS TO GODSPEED RIDES AND DSR! The tour was amazing....but the fun didn't stop there! I'll be posting more pics from the 2008 Blanket Run in the coming days!!!
