I Never Get Tired of Seeing Gene Winfield!

Hey!, I'm a big fan of the old school customizers. And a few of these guys get around to A LOT of shows. I can't tell you how many times I've seen Gene Winfield and/or George Barris at a Midwestern show.
This car, named the Jade Idol II is one of Winfield's creations. It was sitting outside of one of the Fairground barns. Inside, Gene was giving free workshops throughout the day. When I took this picture, Gene was giving detailed instructions on how to chop the top of this pickup truck.

This guy has a cool rod, but he about backed over me as I was getting a picture of Gene.."watch it daddio!"
Another cool early 50's Chevy. The flat paint was cool, the smooth firewall was awesome, and the pinstripes were crisp....but what the heck is up with these plastic pigeons?!?!?

More Cool from Rebel Run 2008

This is an interior shot of the Yellow Thunderbird in my last post.
Here is an exterior and interior shot of a VERY custom 1957 Buick. I like the car...but the wheels just don't "do it" for me. This thing needs some retro wheels or hubcaps...What do you think?

Another cool Chevrolet....I'm always looking for ideas.
This 1956 Chevrolet had some fresh flat black paint and some cool red rims wrapped in white walls. It was also for sale with a very FAT asking price.

Donnie's Got ANOTHER Toy!

Well, I talked to my "horse trader" friend Saturday night when I got back from the Ducktail Run. I found out he sold his 1949 Chevrolet pickup truck (see Suede and Chrome archives for pictures). He also bought a 1941 Chevrolet truck (still down in Florida) and got this cool little T-bucket this week. I JUST HAD to run over to his house this afternoon and check it out. And of course I took my digital camera along too!

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Scruffy

Long Sedans....

Hey! I'm not just a rat rod guy, or a 1930's thru early 50's guy either. I'm a firm believer that with the right wheel/tire combination and paint....ANYTHING can be "Suede and Chrome worthy".
Check out these awesome sedans. Big Impalas, Pontiacs, etc.....Very cool!

O.k...I really didn't think much of the common looking VW Beetle, but I thought the luggage rack and antique suitcases were cool.

Rebel Run 2008, Part 4

Well, I absolutely love to see creativity when it comes to cars. I love it when a car owner puts a bit of him or herself into their car. Sometimes, this can backfire...I've seen a few cars over the years that have made me say, "What the heck was that guy thinking?"

Here is a great example of some creativity....the owner of this Ford mounted the cover of an outboard motor as a cool addition to his engine. The cover is complete with a rope pull start!

I'm a big fan of cool pinstriping as well. This pickup had some sutle, but wicked designs.

Rebel Run, Lima, Ohio (flame throwers)

More flame-thrown pictures! Check out the "aftermath".... "SMOLDERING ASPHALT" Batman!
I am absolutely "diggin" this 50 Chevy! Love the wide whites, the flat black rims, the chrome centers, and the cool scallops!

And did I mention this guy can throw flames too?!?!?!?!

Some more COOOOL cars from the Rebel Run

This English Ford was pretty cool..complete with blower, tubbed chubbies in the rear, and even a trailer.
Flat beige? Yellow flames? Believe it or not....I think the owner pulled it off.
Ahhh yes....like a breath of fresh air...this traditional looking rod pulled into the fairgrounds! Man I love 'em!

This has to be one of the coolest mid-50's Chevrolet trucks I saw in Lima. This thing has "it"...the right stance, tire/wheel combination, simple, but cool.

Rebel Run 2008, Lima, Ohio

This Ford was a great example of a vintage hotrod.
Well, my father, oldest son, and I attended a GREAT show on September 20th! The show was held at the fairgrounds in Lima, Ohio. The Rebel Run happens the weekend before the James Dean Festival and the Ducktail Run.

Can't say I've ever seen this combination before. A vintage Chevy pickup truck with a Mopar engine under the hood!

There was flamethrowing throughout the day. This guy set the asphalt on fire! More pictures to follow in later postings.

I took over 100 photographs throughout the day, so I'll be posting them in the days to come.

Here are a couple of nice examples of that "traditional hot rod" look.

Check this out! Sort of a vintage race car WITH a sidecar?!?!? I have NO IDEA what the heck the goose has to do with anything!
Still trying to take some pictures of nice examples of pinstripe work. One of these days I'm going to get around to buying some paint and brushes and teach myself to do this!

Hey....Here is something you don't see to often...a HUDSON HORNET!

No Decals Here: If you look real close, there is an actual bullet hole in the rear cab glass! Also notice the fishing pole (complete with bobber) located where the antenna should be.
This truck is BARN FRESH. In fact, it sat in a fence row along St. Rt. 571 for years and years! The guy who owns it now is the Darke County Game Warden. He brought the barn fresh truck complete with straw bales, fresh apples, and a couple of live chickens! He even "dressed the part" with bib overalls and a big straw hat! Too funny!

This rat rod has appeared in some very early Suede and Chrome posts. It belongs to the husband of a gal I used to work with at a local Casket Factory. This car is a "work in progress". It's alway cool to try to figure out what modifications he has done since the last time I've seen it.

This guy lives just a few miles from my father. He always has something sitting around. I actually saw him driving this Chevy around Greenville one day this week. Could this be a "daily driver"?

A nice red Chevrolet Sedan with my father's '47 in the background.
MOPAR WAGGOON!
Well, I found out a little more about those clear "bubble" hubcaps. The guy had his Pontiac at this show. Still didn't get to talk to him, but he had this laying on the dash. I've been searching eBay for Beauty Bubble De Luxe Wheel Covers, but still haven't located a set.
Well, that does it for the photographs I shot at the 2008 Rolling 50s Car Show! Several great local shows are coming up in the next few weeks, and you can bet Ol' Scruffy will be checking them out, snapping some photographs, and bringing them to you in future posts on Suede and Chrome!
