One of the things I like to do when I'm stuck in the house is surf the Internet. I love to try to find information about topics that I am interested in. The link above is to a website that contains a VAST amount of information and history pertaining to what was at one time one of the largest employers in my hometown. In fact, several of my family members worked at UCBC, including both grandfathers and my uncle.

The old UCBC manufacturing site was just purchased in the past few weeks by a Canadian manufacturing company. It will be interesting to see what develops from that purchase. I am hoping it will inpart begin the revitalizing of a dying community built on manufacturing and the railroad industry.

Muscle Car Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

Another set of photographs from some archives I ran across the other day. These pictures were taken several years ago, (by the looks of the shirt my son is wearing in the pictures, I'm guessing they were taken about 6 years ago), when my parents rented a cabin in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. My brother and his family came up from Atlanta, GA and we all got together for a "Tennessee" Christmas.

During our visit to the volunteer state, we spent some worthwhile time in a Muscle Car Museum in Pigeon Forge. As you can see from the photographs, the museum was PACKED with cars from a variety of eras. Early muscle cars from the 40's and 50's, traditonal muscle cars from the 60's and 70's, and even some late model Vipers filled this wonderful museum.

Winter is Here!

Well, the BIG winter storm that they've been warning us about for the past 2 days has begun to arrive in the Midwest! The snow started this morning @ about 8:30 or 9. It is now 2:43 Saturday afternoon and the snow fall hasn't let up...in fact, the size of the flakes and the amount of snowfall has increased. According to the local weather forecast, this will continue into this evening, with the possibility of switching over to freezing rain until midnight. Then the "heavy" snow is supposed it hit us. The severe weather warning will be in effect through 11:00 am tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon. Many local and school events have already been cancelled or postponed. It will be interesting to hear if we will have church tomorrow morning or our Christmas program tomorrow night.

I just went outside for the first time today to check the road, the driveway, and the general conditions. Thought I would go ahead and take my camera outside to capture the weather digitally. As you can see from the photographs I took of the garage and various "stuff" I have around the garage, the snow is beginning to accumulate. I may take some more photographs once the storm has passed for comparison. I tried to look at the Texaco thermometer I have attached to the side of the garage, but as you can see from the photo, I don't think it would have been an accurate measure.
